Salem – The Crowning Glory of New Hampshire

It’s no surprise New Hampshire is one of New England’s most popular tourist sites. In particular, Salem, New Hampshire is the epitome of what tourists expect from a quaint, traditional New England town. Located in Rockingham County, it has a friendly, welcoming population of fewer than 30,000. Salem is the crowning glory of the picturesque, idyllic state of New Hampshire for many reasons. There’s so much to see and do.

When to Go to Salem
Salem, New Hampshire is a jewel in any season of the year. Yet, visitors flock to Salem in autumn because of the riotous colors of fall foliage. In summer, choose Canobie Lake Park. It offers a wealth of amusements for families or couples. Fresh, crisp air and sunshine under the huge dome of Salem’s sky help to make this a must-see destination.

What to Do and See
You’ll be entertained at Canobie Lake Park by live shows with music and dancing. Patrons take in acts like:
. New Shanghai Circus
. Elvis impersonators
. Battle of the Bands
. Juggling
. Game show fun
. Magic
. Fireworks

This slate of entertainment runs through August to mid September 2015. Stop back in autumn for Rocktober Fest from September 26 through October 31, 2015.

Canobie Lake in Enchanting Salem
There’s a wonderfully moody aura about Canobie Lake that brings back memories of the past. It is 1.5 miles long and one mile. The surface area is 375 acres and a maximum depth of 40 feet. Canobie Lake is a warm water haven for a multitude of fish like the prized rainbow trout, bluegills, brook trout, large and smallmouth bass, pickerel, crappies, pumpkinseed and brown bullheads.

Bellevue Cemetery

While enjoying a visit to Salem, New Hampshire, it’s essential you add Bellevue Cemetery to the itinerary. Styled after Boston’s Mount Auburn Cemetery, it is one of few landscaped cemeteries in the area. It a short 15-minute drive from Salem, located in the town of Lawrence. It was established in 1847 and is the final resting place of many of the victims of the Pemberton Mill disaster of 1860. Relive the history of the area with a tour of the cemetery. Tours are offered during holidays and Fall months surrounding Lawrence’s participation in the Civil War. For photographers, this is a “must see” highlight of your stay.

Salem is beautiful anytime of year, but the small town comes to life in the Fall months. Whether you want to relax and take in the sights or jump into one of the many activities available, there is something for you to do and see this Fall.

Another “must-see” Salem destination that was left off our list is a trip to your dentist. If you have not been in for your six-month checkup, call us to schedule today.
