Basics of Denture Care
People need dentures at almost all ages and for many reasons. Some have had a horrible accident. Others were born with genetic problems that affected their teeth. Still, others may have lost teeth to dental disease, periodontitis, or cancer.
Whatever the problem, dentures can be the answer.
Not only do we craft quality dental prosthetics here at Artisan Dentistry, but we also educate our patients on how to get the most ‘mileage’ out of their new prosthesis.
Rinse Well
Make an effort to rinse your mouth and rinse off your denture after every meal. This will reduce stain and tartar buildup and help you avoid the stink of food debris.
Be Gentle
Dentures can handle a lot when it comes to chewing food, but their frustratingly fragile when you drop them. Whenever you rinse your denture over a sink, place a folded towel at the bottom to cushion the fall in case of an accident.
Clean Your Dentures Daily
More than a simple rinse is needed. Use a designated denture brush to give your denture a thorough scrubbing once a day. Don’t use household cleaners. Only use products formulated specifically for dentures. Keep them well-conditioned and clean by soaking them at night in a safe denture solution.
Take Care of Your Mouth
Denture wearers can easily forget how important it is to care for their mouths, as well. Use a soft toothbrush daily on any remaining teeth and on your tongue, cheeks, and palate.
Schedule Regular Checkups
Dr. Mathew welcomes all patients to Artisan Dentistry – even those without many natural teeth. He designs beautifully realistic and comfortable dentures and encourages denture wearers to have frequent checkups. You need to ensure that your denture is still fitting you well.
