Switching from Dentures to Implants: What You Need to Know
We often have people come into our dental office in Newburyport or Salem, looking to switch to dental implants since they are unhappy with their removable dentures. Even when dentures fit well, there’s the issue of having to glue them, being unable to eat many foods, and even bone loss in the jaw. Here are some things to know if you’re considering switching from dentures to implants:
- You might be able to keep your existing dentures if you like them – Based on how well your existing denture is designed, it could be modified to fit on the implants and the implants can be placed with that in mind. This way you don’t have to risk getting a whole new denture that you might not like.
- The dentures can still be made to be easily removed – If you prefer having a removable denture but desire the fixed one that is still more fixed in the mouth than a traditional denture you can achieve that with special attachments on the implants that make the dentures very secure but still removable.
- You still need to brush – Even if you get dental implants, you still need to keep the denture and gums clean in order to ensure that the gums and underlying bone remain healthy. Proper hygiene is especially important after the implant surgery to ensure that the implants settle in properly.
If you are considering switching from dentures to dental implants don’t hesitate to call Dr. Paul Mathew at either his Newburyport or Salem offices for a free dental consultation.
