Making Summer Fun Safe, From the Team at Artisan Dentistry
With summer in full swing, the dental teams at Artisan Dentistry’s Salem, NH and Newburyport, MA dental offices are enjoying spending time outside. Here are three ways the dental team at Artisan Dentistry is staying safe while enjoying the outdoors.
Protect yourself from ticks and mosquitoes – Ticks and mosquitoes can carry diseases such as Lyme Disease and West Nile Virus. Make sure to use an insect repellant with 30% DEET concentration to keep those pesky and potentially dangerous bugs away. You can also reduce the odds of encountering ticks by not walking through any tall plants or shrubs and sticking to the beaten path. Clothes that minimize skin exposure can also help.
Protect yourself from the sun – Make sure to use sunscreen whenever you go out for any prolonged period of time. The sunscreen should be SPF 50 and provide protection from UVA and UVB rays. Minimizing skin exposure and delaying going outside until later in the day, when the rays aren’t that strong, can also help reduce exposure.
Protect yourself from cyanobacteria – The summer heat brings with it an explosion in growth of cyanobacteria. These bacteria bloom in a way that’s somewhat similar to algae and release toxins into the water in the process. Make sure to look for any cyanobacteria advisories on the MA or NH state websites before getting into any body of water.
Everyone at Artisan Dentistry wishes you a happy and healthy summer season filled with fun!
